Mysterious Russian drone overflies EU facility in Italy
The drone that has overflown the European Commission joint research centre at Ispra near Varese on Lake Maggiore five times in the last month is of Russian origin, police said.
Ispra is home to facilities of the EU's Joint Research Centre, which has launched a research project on the security aspects of drones, CE Report quotes ANSA.
Italian defence-and-aerospace group Leonardo also has plants in the area.
No one actually saw the drone fly, but the sensors of the Joint Research Centre, which detect radio waves, recorded frequencies that are associated with a Russian-made device as the source.
Five recent overflights of the drone have been recorded in a total of five or six days, police said.
