European Parliament President opens "Europa Experience" in Zagreb
It is the responsibility of the European Parliament to adopt the best decisions for Croatian citizens, who should therefore be shown how these decisions are made, its President Roberta Metsola said in Zagreb at the opening of the Europa Experience multimedia centre.
Metsola is officially visiting Zagreb for the second time on the occasion of the opening of this multimedia centre, which aims to bring citizens closer to the impact of European legislation on daily life, the work of EU institutions and current European topics, CE Report quotes HINA.
The better informed we are, the stronger we are, both as a society and as individuals, and that's why we want to bring citizens closer to European decision-making, she said to officials, citizens and students present at the event.
Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić-Radman agreed, saying that reliable information gathering and analytical skills are crucial for lasting peace in Europe.
"Peace, freedom and progress do not depend solely on defence capabilities," he said, adding that the war in Ukraine is a reminder that "we must never take security and stability for granted".
Dubravka Šuica, Commissioner for the Mediterranean, said the EU is focused on "foresight, resilience and common defence."
"The European Union actively builds bridges. The Mediterranean was our shared past, it is our present and it will be key to our common prosperity and future," she said, speaking about cooperation with North Africa and the Middle East and Gulf countries.
Metsola first visited Zagreb in June 2023 to mark the 10th anniversary of Croatia’s EU membership. Today, she is scheduled to meet with Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
Europa Experience is designed for citizens from all EU member states, offering content in all 24 official EU languages. It also features a role-playing room, where participants can take on the role of members of the European Parliament, engage in committee debates and negotiate with representatives of other member states.
In addition to Zagreb, similar interactive exhibition spaces operate in Berlin, Ljubljana, Helsinki, Strasbourg, Copenhagen, Tallinn, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna, Warsaw, Prague, Luxembourg and Dublin.
