
EU life expectancy rebounds post-pandemic, reaching new highs
Life expectancy in European Union (EU) countries has increased to 81,4 years.
The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has published data on life expectancy in EU countries, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
According to the data, in EU countries life expectancy has increased by 0,8 years compared to the previous year, reaching 81,4 years in 2023.
Thus, life expectancy, escaping the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, has exceeded the values of 2019, AA wrote.
Meanwhile, compared to 2002, average life expectancy has increased by 3,8 years. The average life expectancy of women exceeded that of men by 5,3 years.
Life expectancy in EU countries was 84 years for women and 78,7 years for men, it reports. KosovaPress.
In EU countries, the longest life expectancy was in Spain with 84 years, in Italy with 83,5 years, in Luxembourg, Malta and Sweden with 83,4 years and in France with 83 years.
Life expectancy in Germany was calculated to be 81,1 years, while the lowest was in Latvia at 75,6 years, Bulgaria at 75,8 years and Romania at 76,4 years.
