
Italy's employment rate reached new record
Italy's employment rate reached 62.8% in January, an increase of 0.4 of a percentage point on the previous month and the highest level on record since the start of the statistical series in January 2024, according to provisional data released by Istat.
The National Statistics Agency said 24.222 million people were in employment in Italy in January, an increase of 145,000 on December and of 513,000 on January 2024, CE Report quotes ANSA.
It said Italy's unemployment rate fell to 6.3%, down 0.1 of a point compared to December, while the jobless rate for under-25s who are active on the labour market dropped 0.3 of a point to 18.7%.
The inactivity rate fell 0.4 of a point to 32.9%.
"On a yearly basis, the rise of employed people was accompanied by a decrease of unemployed persons (-10.7%, -194,000) and of the inactive people aged 15-64 (-1.3%, -158,000)," Istat said.
