Real wages in Italy improve for first time in two years

Istat said that its index for the hourly wages of workers covered by national collective bargaining agreements rose by 3.1% on average during the course of 2024, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The national statistics agency said that, with the help of weak price growth, there was a "first noticeable improvement" in real wages last year after two years of decline.

It said there were above-average increases were registered in the industrial sector (+4.6%) and private services (+3,4%).

Istat said 49.2% of employees in Italy - about 6.4 million workers - were covered by national collective agreements for the wage setting at the end of 2024.
