EU prepares to counter Russia's hybrid threats after Baltic Sea cable attack
The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, has announced plans to discuss Russia's hybrid threats with EU foreign ministers on Monday. This follows the recent damage to an undersea cable in the Baltic Sea, highlighting ongoing risks to critical infrastructure in EU member states, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Kallas stated that the damage to the undersea cable marks the latest in a series of incidents affecting critical infrastructure in the Baltic region. “Tomorrow, I will discuss with the Foreign Ministers how we can better respond to and deter hybrid threats amidst Russia's intensified campaigns,” she wrote on X.
International media reported that a fiber-optic undersea cable between Latvia and Sweden was damaged earlier this morning. This incident is part of a pattern of attacks targeting critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
