Italy’s satellite strategy gains EU green light

European Union

An agreement between the Italian government and Elon Musk's SpaceX for the use of the Starlink satellite communications system would be compatible with participation in the Iris² project, the European Union's satellite internet constellation, a European Commission spokesperson told ANSA, CE Report quotes.

"An EU regulation establishes the Iris² system and is therefore applicable throughout the EU," the spokesperson said.

"Italy, as a sovereign state, has full discretionary power to proceed with sovereign decisions and actions".
