Woman sentenced to life after faking her own death
A 25-year-old woman and her 26-year-old accomplice were sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Ingolstadt, Germany, for the murder of a “doppelgänger” in a case that became known by this name, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Shahraban K., a woman of Iraqi-German origin, attempted to fake her own death to escape family conflicts. To execute her plan, she found a 23-year-old woman who resembled her through social media.
After arranging a meeting, Shahraban K. and her accomplice murdered the victim, Khadidja O., attempting to pass off the victim's body as her own.
During the 11-month trial, more than 50 hearings were held, and the court characterized the crime as particularly heinous.
According to the prosecution, the victim was contacted in August 2022 via a social media platform under the pretense of receiving free beauty treatments. Shahraban K. and her accomplice, Sheqir K., then lured her to a fake appointment. Once they met, the perpetrators took the victim to a wooded area where she was stabbed 56 times.
They later left the victim’s body in Shahraban’s car, where her parents discovered it, mistaking it for their daughter due to the physical resemblance. However, investigations by German authorities uncovered the true identity of the murdered individual.
Shahraban K. comes from the Yazidi community in northern Iraq, and the motive for faking her death may have been related to the breakdown of her marriage.
In addition to the murder charge, she was also convicted of attempted murder. The court revealed that she had previously hired a hitman to kill her brother-in-law, though this crime was ultimately not carried out.
