The European Investment Bank (EIB) is committing up to €30 million to support the Pestera II onshore wind farm in Romania, a key project aimed at enhancing the country’s renewable energy capacity and energy independence, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Located near Constanta on the Black Sea coast, Pestera II is set to become one of Romania's largest onshore wind projects, with an installed capacity of up to 400 MW—enough to power over 1.4 million households annually. The project, co-financed with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), is part of a broader €500 million investment and is expected to begin construction later this year.

EIB Vice-President Ioannis Tsakiris highlighted the bank’s commitment to sustainability, stating that the investment reinforces the EU’s climate and energy goals. CIP Partner Radu Gruescu added that Pestera II will deliver affordable, long-term power while advancing Romania’s decarbonization efforts.

The EIB, the EU’s long-term lending institution, continues to prioritize climate action, having mobilized €100 billion for Europe’s energy security and €110 billion for startups and scale-ups in 2024.
