Moldova Introduces Energy Communities to Boost Renewable Energy and Business Opportunities

Energy

The Ministry of Energy has introduced the concept of energy communities to businesses, outlining the steps needed to establish them. These communities, based on local renewable energy production, offer reduced energy costs and greater control over consumption and decision-making, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Energy communities consist of local members—individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and local authorities—who collaborate on renewable energy production, consumption, and distribution. Their goal is to cut costs and stimulate sustainable economic development.

"Energy communities are a major opportunity for Moldova’s business sector, promoting energy autonomy and enhancing economic competitiveness," said Secretary of State Carolina Novac at a meeting with business representatives.

The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) provided guidance on the establishment process, while international partners, including UNDP Moldova, the German Energy Agency (DENA), and USAID Moldova, are supporting initiatives through funding, technical consultancy, and legal assistance.

With growing international support, Moldova is taking steps toward a more sustainable and independent energy future.
