US President Joe Biden announced a major executive action on Monday to ban new offshore oil and gas drilling across 625 million acres of ocean, including the East and West coasts, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and Alaska's Northern Bering Sea, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

“This decision protects our coasts from the harm drilling can cause while conserving areas we hold dear," Biden said. He emphasized that this move aligns with public sentiment and is unnecessary for meeting the nation's energy needs.

Biden highlighted his record on conservation, stating that over the past four years, his administration has protected more than 670 million acres of US lands and waters, more than any president in history.

However, President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to reverse the ban when he takes office on January 20. Speaking on the Hugh Hewitt Show, Trump called the move "ridiculous" and vowed, "I will unban it immediately."
