Arif Huseynov: a lifelong dedication to Azerbaijani folklore and art

Culture

Arif Huseynov, an outstanding graphic artist, People's Artist of Azerbaijan, is one of our painters who is constantly in demand and devoted to national folklore and traditions. His works exhibited at exhibitions of different scales over the years are important facts confirming the handwriting of the artist in the world of art. Since 1970s, Arif Huseynov's works have been repeatedly presented to the public in Baku, as well as in many magnificent exhibition halls around the world. Arif Huseynov was awarded various awards and diplomas for his works exhibited in Moscow, Prague, Tokyo, Ankara, Izmir, Paris and other cities.

Today, Arif Huseynov's works are kept in the Azerbaijan State Art Museum, Azerbaijan State Art Gallery, Moscow State Museum of Arts of the Peoples of the East, as well as in private collections. He received his primary education at the Azerbaijan State Art School named after A. Azimzade. Later he graduated from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. Since 1975, he has been a member of the Union of Artists.

Samples of material culture, folklore and traditions, with which he was associated throughout his creative life, found new life and existence in his works. For instance, "Karabakh Shikestesi", "Mis Gablar", "Ashig", "Kendirbazlar" and others. In the works, along with the artist's adherence to the ancient traditions of miniature art, his civic zeal and fanaticism are clearly felt.

The solo exhibition of People's Artist Arif Huseynov and his son Orkhan held in Berlin within the framework of the "Year of Azerbaijan" held in Germany in 2008 was assessed as a contribution to the expansion of cultural ties between the two friendly countries. The exhibition "From East to West", which became another success in familiarizing the world community with Azerbaijani culture and visual arts, has become a new page in the development of cultural ties between Germany and Azerbaijan. The confirmation of this is the high appreciation of Azerbaijani artists' creativity in such a country as Germany, which bestowed great artists to the world.

Arif Huseynov, who sincerely loves literature, has repeatedly turned to the works of great masters of the word. His works related N.Ganjavi, M.Fizuli, M.A. Sabir, H.Javid, S.Vurgun, R. Rza. and other our classics are considered fine examples of easel graphics. The artist has also designed a number of samples of art literature. In 2009, the Ministry of Culture issued a catalog "Arif Huseynov - Orkhan Huseynov". It tells about the achievements of Azerbaijani artists in the Berlin gallery, presents photos of the works exhibited there. Looking at these paintings made with oil paint on canvas, you understand both the world of art of Azerbaijani artists and admire the diversity and expressiveness of their themes.
