Orthodox Christians across Bulgaria observed Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Considered the strictest day of fasting, believers refrain from food and water to share in Christ’s suffering, CE Report quotes BTA

Morning church services feature the reading of twelve Gospel passages recounting the Passion of Christ. A central ritual is the unveiling of a replica of the Holy Shroud, symbolizing Christ's divine presence. Before the evening service, a symbolic tomb is erected in the church, adorned with flowers, and the shroud is placed upon it.

Worshippers traditionally pass under the shroud, praying for health and divine grace. While this act honors Christ’s tomb in religious terms, it also reflects a folk tradition rooted in hope for healing.

The day concludes with an evening service dedicated to the memory of Christ’s death.
