National Museum of Military History Unveils King Boris III’s Gold Wreath

On March 3, the National Museum of Military History in Sofia is unveiling for the first time the gold wreath that King Boris III presented at the 1934 inauguration of the Monument to Freedom on Mt. Sveti Nikola. The exhibit also includes photos documenting the monument’s construction and unveiling, CE Report quotes BTA

The monument honors the Battle of Shipka Pass, a pivotal clash during the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878) in which Bulgarian volunteers defended the pass against the Ottoman army.

Visitors can explore the newly renovated exhibition spaces dedicated to Bulgaria’s Liberation, gaining insight into the war’s causes and military campaigns. The museum highlights the contributions of over 60,000 Bulgarians who took part in the war, from the Volunteer Corps to logistical and medical support, showcasing their crucial role in securing national freedom.
