Memorial Service Held in Sofia for Archimandrite Ambrose, Hegumen of Zographou Monastery
A memorial service was held in Sofia on Tuesday for Archimandrite Ambrose, Hegumen of the Zographou Monastery on Mount Athos, following his passing after a brief illness, CE Report quotes BTA
The service, led by Bishop Pachomius of Branica, took place at the St. Nedelya Metropolitan Church. A panikhida memorial service followed, with His Holiness Patriarch Daniil and Bulgarian President Rumen Radev in attendance.
President Radev described Archimandrite Ambrose as a devoted servant of God and Orthodox Christianity, who greatly contributed to the spiritual and historical significance of Zographou Monastery. Under his leadership, the monastery became a stronghold of Orthodoxy, Bulgarian spirituality, and a symbol of the enduring connection between Bulgaria and Mount Athos.
The President expressed gratitude that Archimandrite Ambrose was recognized during his lifetime, noting he was honored with the Order of the Balkan Range. “He was a soft-spoken man whose wisdom and deep spirituality inspired all who knew him,” Radev said.
Reflecting on his visits to Zographou Monastery, Radev added, “Spending time at that holy place with Father Ambrose was transformative. He will be deeply missed but remains a role model. We are committed to continuing support for this sacred site.”
The service was also attended by National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova, alongside other dignitaries and mourners.
