The ceremony, organized under the aegis of the President of Poland, coincides with International Holocaust Remembrance Day, established by the United Nations. It will bring together Holocaust survivors, official state delegations, and international organizations to honor the victims and reflect on the lessons of history.
Minister Intotero will lead the Romanian delegation, which includes Bogdan Mazuru, the Government’s special representative for remembrance policies, Dragos Hotea, coordinator of the Interministerial Committee for combating anti-Semitism, and Irina Sanda Marin Cajal, a senior official at the Ministry of Culture.
The Romanian Ministry of Culture emphasized the importance of such events in preserving the memory of Holocaust victims, honoring survivors, and combating Holocaust denial and distortion.
"Romania’s participation highlights our country’s commitment to remembering the Holocaust victims, combating anti-Semitism, and promoting human rights at both national and international levels," the ministry stated.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day was established by the UN to honor the victims of the Holocaust and promote Holocaust education. Romania has strengthened its commitment to this cause over the past two decades, most recently introducing the subject “History of the Jews and the Holocaust” into high school curriculums in the 2023-2024 academic year.
