The tragicomedy, which portrays the chaos of the Romanian Revolution through six interwoven stories, captivated both the jury and the Egyptian audience. The film's blend of humor and historical poignancy earned widespread praise and resounding applause during the event.

Romania’s ambassador to Egypt, Olivia Toderean, accepted the award on behalf of the filmmakers. The trophy was presented by festival director Hussein Fahmy and Egypt’s Minister of Culture, Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno.

“This is a great success for Romanian cinema and a testament to our cultural excellence,” stated the Ministry of Culture, extending congratulations to Muresanu, Solomon, and the film’s cast and crew.

Starring Adrian Vancica, Nicoleta Hancu, Iulian Postelnicu, Mihai Calin, Emilia Dobrin, and Andrei Miercure, The New Year That Never Came offers a poignant depiction of the societal upheaval during Nicolae Ceaușescu’s downfall. Its win solidifies Romania’s cultural presence in the Middle East and Africa, celebrated through one of the region’s most prestigious cinematic events.
