South Korean Opera Singers to Perform in Sofia Opera's La Bohème

Young opera talents from Daegu, South Korea, will grace the stage at the Sofia Opera with guest performances in Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème on January 23, 24, and 26, the opera house announced. This collaboration follows the Sofia Opera’s successful presentation of Richard Strauss's Elektra at South Korea's largest opera festival in 2023, CE Report quotes BTA

Cast Highlights
The January 23 performance features Arthur Espiritu as Rodolfo, Aleksandrina Mihailova as Musetta, JunWeon Hwang as Marcello, Silvia Teneva as Mimi, Mikhail Motailenko as Schaunard, and Nikolay Voinov as Colline.

On January 24 and 26, SeungYup Han will play Rodolfo, YeSol Park will be Musetta, JunWeon Hwang remains as Marcello, Ma Fei takes on Mimi, and JunMo Park will perform as Colline.

Boian Videnoff will conduct the orchestra, with Violeta Dimitrova leading the choir. Set design is by Svetoslav Kokalov, and costumes are by Petya Stoykova. The Talasamche Children’s Vocal and Drama Formation, led by Dimitar Kostantsaliev, will also participate.

A Century of La Bohème in Bulgaria
La Bohème debuted in Bulgaria in 1922, staged by the Sofia Opera under the baton of Maestro Georgi Atanasov. Known for its captivating melodies and unforgettable characters, Puccini’s masterpiece remains a staple in opera houses worldwide, alongside his other iconic works, Madama Butterfly and Turandot.
