Adriana Lecouvreur Returns to Sofia Opera to Honor Raina Kabaivanska’s Legacy
The Sofia Opera and Ballet will stage Adriana Lecouvreur on January 17, 18, and 19 to mark the 90th anniversary of Bulgarian opera legend Raina Kabaivanska, CE Report quotes BTA
The performances will feature talents from Kabaivanska’s school at New Bulgarian University, including Vittoria Yeo, Veronica Simeoni, Sofia Soloviy, Giuseppe Infantino, and Hae Kang, joined by Sofia Opera soloists Gabriela Georgieva, Gergana Rusekova, Kostadin Andreev, and Ventseslav Anastasov.
The production team includes conductor Francesco Rosa, director Julia Krusteva, set designer Alfredo Troisi, choreographer Lyudmila Ilieva, and choir conductor Violeta Dimitrova.
This marks the first performance of Adriana Lecouvreur at Sofia Opera since the 1980s. Composed by Francesco Cilea with a libretto by Arturo Colautti, the opera premiered in 1902 in Milan, inspired by a play by Eugène Scribe and Ernest Legouvé.
