The Jivko Petrov Trio (JP3) will take the stage at Sofia Live Club on Monday night as part of a tour promoting their latest album, Beyond the Flesh. The album features music from the upcoming Bulgarian film Flesh, directed by debut filmmaker Dimitar "Dimi" Stoyanovich, CE Report quotes BTA

Flesh tells the story of Nadezhda ("hope" in Bulgarian), a translator grappling with a personal health crisis while working on a novel by a fictional Nobel laureate.

In an interview, pianist and composer Jivko Petrov shared insights about his year-long work on the film's soundtrack. “I wrote about two hours of music, but only one hour made it into the film,” he explained, describing the challenges of crafting music for the emotionally intense movie. Initially leaning toward dramatic compositions, Petrov shifted to a more uplifting approach to ease the viewer’s journey through the film.

The live performances on the tour will feature music excluded from the final cut of the film, allowing audiences to experience the compositions independently. “The album is like a film for listening, not watching,” Petrov said, noting the rarity of standalone soundtrack releases in Bulgaria.

JP3, consisting of Jivko Petrov (piano), Dimitar Semov (drums), and Dimitar Karamfilov (double bass), collaborated with guitarist Hristo Vichev for the project. Unable to employ a full orchestra, Petrov utilized samples to achieve the desired depth in the compositions.

The album’s 12 tracks reflect the director’s trust in Petrov’s creative vision, offering an evocative musical prelude to the film’s release.
