The FBiH Minister of Environment and Tourism, Nasiha Pozder, signed contracts for the programs 'Sanitation and Removal of Unsanitary (Illegal) Waste Dumpsites in the Federation of BiH' and 'Support for Better Management of Established Protected Areas in the Federation of BiH under the Authority of Lower Levels of Government', as well as a contract for the designated use of funds for the project 'Construction of the Sanitary Regional Landfill Trešnjica' in Goražde, CE Report quotes FENA.
These agreements mark a significant step forward in addressing environmental challenges and improving waste management practices across the Federation of BiH. The initiatives aim to mitigate the environmental and public health risks posed by illegal waste dumps, enhance the protection and sustainable management of established natural areas, and provide modern infrastructure for waste disposal in the Goražde region.
Focus on Key Environmental Programs
The Sanitation and Removal of Unsanitary (Illegal) Waste Dumpsites program will target the identification and removal of illegal waste sites that pose ecological threats. This initiative aligns with the Federation's broader goals of improving environmental standards and promoting sustainable urban and rural development.
Simultaneously, the program for Better Management of Established Protected Areas will focus on strengthening the capacities of local government authorities to ensure the effective preservation of biodiversity, landscapes, and natural heritage. The funding is expected to support the development of management plans, community engagement, and monitoring systems.
Investment in Modern Waste Infrastructure
The construction of the Sanitary Regional Landfill Trešnjica in Goražde represents a critical investment in modernizing waste management infrastructure. Once completed, the landfill will serve as a regional hub for environmentally responsible waste disposal, adhering to EU standards. The project aims to reduce pollution, improve waste collection efficiency, and set a precedent for sustainable regional development in BiH.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
Minister Pozder emphasized the importance of these programs in fostering a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for future generations. She highlighted the Ministry's dedication to working collaboratively with local governments, environmental organizations, and international partners to achieve these ambitious goals.
These contracts underscore the Federation of BiH's commitment to addressing pressing environmental issues while building a foundation for long-term ecological and economic benefits. Further updates on the progress of these projects are expected in the coming months.
