Trump, Meloni Push for Trade Deal
President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed optimism Thursday about the prospects of a US-EU trade deal, as global tariff tensions continue to rise, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
Meloni, chosen by the EU to lead negotiations, visited the White House for a working lunch with Trump, who said he’s “in no rush” but “100%” confident a deal will be reached. The EU, currently facing a 20% tariff, has a 90-day reprieve expiring July 9 to negotiate terms.
"I'm sure we can make a deal, and I'm here to help with that," Meloni said. Talks are gaining urgency, with other global players like Japan also engaged in high-level negotiations in Washington.
Meloni will return to Rome later Thursday and is set to host Vice President JD Vance for an official state visit on Friday.
