Italian Salaries Offer Less Buying Power

Business

Taking into account the cost of living, the purchasing power of Italian salaries remains 26.5% lower than that of German workers, and 12.2% lower than that of French workers, CE Report quotes ANSA.

Even when considering social security contributions — which are higher in Italy than in Germany and France — the gap, although reduced, remains significant (respectively 16.5% and 11%).

This is stated in a report on Italian consumption by the Confcommercio Research Office, presented at the association’s annual Forum at Villa Miani in Rome, organized with The European House – Ambrosetti.

According to Confcommercio, the gap between Italy and other European countries, especially Germany, can largely be explained by differences in labor productivity. In fact, Italy's output per worker has remained stagnant for thirty years.
