Bulgaria to Introduce Road Safety Measures

Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry will propose new measures to enhance road safety, according to Interior Minister Daniel Mitov. Speaking in Veliko Tarnovo on Monday, Mitov outlined plans to tackle road accidents, including installing safety poles and alert strips on high-risk sections, increasing the presence of traffic police, and introducing traffic cameras, CE Report quotes BTA

The ministry also plans to integrate the toll system with traffic monitoring tools for better enforcement of violations. Additionally, the reform of fines and the use of unmarked vehicles by police are part of the strategy.

Mitov emphasized the need for ethical barriers to reduce crime and criticized the lack of direction in the past four years, which he believes weakened enforcement efforts. He also highlighted the importance of the Interior Ministry’s interactive map, which identifies dangerous road areas, in improving safety.

The Interior Ministry’s priorities for 2024 will focus on prevention in areas such as drug distribution, fraud, and traffic-related injuries.
