IMF Warns of Global Risks from New US Tariffs

Business

Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF, has expressed concern over the latest tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump, warning they could deepen global uncertainty and exacerbate the fragile state of the world economy, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

In a statement on Thursday, Georgieva highlighted the tariffs as a significant risk to global economic stability, particularly at a time of slow growth. She urged the US and its trade partners to cooperate and avoid measures that could further harm the global economy.

Trump's tariffs, ranging from 10% to 50% on imports from multiple countries, including China, the EU, and Vietnam, mark a sharp escalation in US trade policy. The IMF is currently assessing the broader impacts of these measures, with findings to be released later this month.

The move has raised concerns worldwide about its potential to disrupt trade flows and further slow down global economic growth.
