Wholesale Food Prices in Bulgaria See Slight Increase

The wholesale food price index in Bulgaria rose by 0.99% to 2.346 points in the past week, according to the latest data from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets. The index stood at 2.323 points the previous week. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005, CE Report quotes BTA

Tomato prices increased by 4.5%, reaching BGN 3.19 per kilogram, while garlic rose by 3.7% to BGN 6.60/kg. Onions saw the largest price drop, falling by 7.9% to BGN 1.20/kg, with cabbage and lettuce also experiencing decreases of 6.8% and 4.9%, respectively.

Fruit prices showed mixed trends: apples increased by 7.7% to BGN 1.92/kg, while bananas dropped by 0.6% to BGN 2.76/kg. The price of citrus fruits also went up, with grapefruits rising by 4.3% and lemons by 4.1%.

In dairy, white brined cheese decreased slightly by 0.2% to BGN 11.32/kg, while yellow kashkaval rose by 0.1% to BGN 18.08/kg. Yogurt prices dropped by 3.5% to BGN 1.30 for 400 grams, while fresh milk saw a 1.5% increase, reaching BGN 2.41 per litre.

Other notable changes include a 4.8% increase in egg prices, a 1.5% rise in rice prices, and a 1.9% hike in lentil prices. Meanwhile, sunflower oil and flour prices dropped by 0.3% and 4.1%, respectively.
