
Greek Minister Highlights Ongoing Efforts to Improve Transport Safety
Greek Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing transport safety in an interview with ERTNEWS TV, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
Staikouras noted that Greece has an action plan, developed in collaboration with the European Commission, set to improve railway safety by the end of 2026. He highlighted that 80% of the Athens-Thessaloniki rail network is already equipped with operational signalling and telecommand systems.
Additionally, he mentioned an increase in staff at the Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE) compared to last year, with 140 more hires planned next month. Acknowledging longstanding issues, he stressed the need to address accumulated dysfunctions, particularly in the wake of the Tempe disaster.
