Greece is set to begin its first exploratory drilling for hydrocarbons in 2025, likely near Crete, Deputy Environment and Energy Minister Alexandra Sdoukou announced at the Athens Energy Summit. Addressing concerns about potential shifts in energy policy following Trump's election, Sdoukou reaffirmed Greece’s stance on natural gas as a necessary bridge fuel for decarbonization and energy cost management.

Meanwhile, Greece’s Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) will expand its capacity by 1.2 billion cubic meters per year starting in 2026, increasing its role in European energy supply. Additionally, discussions are ongoing to enhance Greece’s natural gas transport infrastructure to Northern and Western Europe, as well as North Africa, including cooperation on carbon storage initiatives.
