EU Commissioner Highlights Need for Sustainable Shipping

European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, emphasized the importance of balancing economic growth and environmental responsibility in the maritime sector following the release of the European Maritime Report 2025, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

"The new environmental report is a crucial guide for ensuring sustainable, competitive, and resilient European maritime transport," Tzitzikostas stated. "By working together, we can keep shipping a key part of the global economy while protecting our oceans for future generations."

The report, released on Tuesday, highlights progress in sustainability within the European maritime sector but warns that further efforts are needed. To meet the EU's climate goals for 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the sector must intensify its environmental initiatives in the coming years.
