Anticipated Electricity Demand Increase on January 27

Electricity consumption on the right bank of the Dniester River is expected to rise by 17% on January 27 compared to the previous day, though it remains 3% lower than a typical winter day, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Energocom reports that approximately 10% of the day’s electricity demand will be met through renewable energy sources, primarily wind and solar. Higher-than-usual temperatures have led to reduced electricity production from power plants in Chișinău and Bălți.

The majority of electricity will be supplied through imports, secured via bilateral agreements and the Romanian market. Energocom confirmed that necessary capacity reservations have been made at the Romania border to ensure a steady electricity supply.

Since January 1, 2025, the right bank has no longer relied on electricity from the Cuciurgan Power Plant, following Gazprom’s suspension of gas deliveries to Moldovagaz. Current electricity needs are met through a combination of domestic production and imports.
