Wholesale Fruit Prices Rise in Bulgaria, Tangerines and Apples Lead the Increase

The wholesale price of fruit in Bulgaria rose during the week ending January 24, according to data from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets. The market index for wholesale food prices increased by 0.27%, reaching 2.254 points, compared to 2.248 points the previous week, CE Report quotes BTA

Tangerines and apples saw the highest price jumps, rising by 8.5% to BGN 2.61/kg and 7.4% to BGN 1.83/kg, respectively. Oranges increased by 5.1% to BGN 2.10/kg, while bananas and grapefruit saw modest gains of 0.2% and 0.8%. Lemons appreciated by 2.1% to BGN 2.22/kg.

Cabbage had the sharpest increase among vegetables, climbing 9.7% to BGN 1.45/kg. Potatoes rose by 3.8% to BGN 1.30/kg. In contrast, greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes fell by 1.3% and 2.7%, while lettuce dropped by 5.4% to BGN 1.20 per piece. Carrots and onions increased by 5.9% and 6%, respectively.

Prices for dairy products showed mixed trends. White brined cheese rose by 2.4% to BGN 11.70/kg, while yellow kashkaval cheese edged down slightly to BGN 17.64/kg. Yoghurt appreciated by 5.5%, trading at BGN 1.37 for 400g, whereas fresh milk declined by 0.7%.

Other notable changes include a 2.9% drop in the price of eggs (size M) to BGN 0.345 per piece and a 0.6% decrease in poultry to BGN 6.44/kg. Meanwhile, cooking oil rose by 2.1% to BGN 3.24/litre, and sugar increased by 1.5% to BGN 1.91/kg.
