Construction of the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau Overhead Power Line (LEA) continues steadily, even during winter, with efforts adhering to the project schedule. Over 200 pole foundations have been completed, and 30 poles assembled along a 65 km stretch. Starting next week, the number of workers on-site will increase to accelerate progress, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Strategic Importance for Energy Security
State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Constantin Borosan, emphasized the project's role in strengthening Moldova's energy security by enabling electricity transmission from Romania and other European markets directly to Chisinau, bypassing the Transnistrian region. The upgraded Chisinau and Vulcanesti substations will also support greater integration of renewable energy sources.

Substation and Pole Construction Underway
The Chisinau Electric Substation, where the high-voltage line will connect, is seeing ongoing work, including foundation preparation and equipment installation. Despite winter conditions, approximately 50 workers are on-site daily, with plans to intensify efforts as weather improves.

Deputy Director of Moldelectrica, Sergio Carmanschi, noted that essential equipment, including an autotransformer, has already been delivered. Installation of metal structures and equipment will begin in February-March.

Project Progress and Investment
The LEA project, currently at 49% completion, is expected to be finished by late 2025. The initiative, valued at €61 million and funded by the World Bank, is part of Moldova’s Electric System Development Project. With materials and components delivered at 90% capacity, officials remain optimistic about meeting deadlines despite challenges posed by the war in Ukraine.

This strategic initiative underscores Moldova's commitment to energy independence and security, marking a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure development.
