New Tax Break for Insured Homeowners in Greece Starting in 2025

Starting Wednesday, January 15, homeowners in Greece with insurance coverage for earthquakes, fire, and flooding can apply for a discount on their real estate tax (ENFIA). The reduction, effective from 2025, was announced by Deputy National Economy and Finance Minister Christos Dimas and offers incentives for future insurance contracts, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Key details include:

  • 20% Discount: Homes valued up to €500,000 insured for at least a year.
  • 10% Discount: Homes over €500,000 insured for at least a year.
  • Proportional Discounts: Homes insured for 3–12 months.

Application Process

Insurance companies must submit eligible policies to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) by October 1, 2024. Homeowners apply for the discount through the myaade.gov.gr portal by February 14, 2025. Insurance companies verify data by February 28, 2025. AADE confirms eligibility and applies the discount.

Deputy Minister Dimas emphasized the initiative supports disaster preparedness and tax relief. AADE Governor George Pitsilis highlighted improvements in the application process based on last year’s implementation.
