Saudi Delegation Visits Romania to Discuss Resumption of Sheep Exports
A Saudi Arabian delegation is visiting Romania from January 8 to 12 to discuss resuming sheep exports, the National Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) announced. The visit follows efforts to reopen trade channels temporarily suspended due to a peste des petits ruminants (PPR) outbreak, CE Report quotes Agerpres
The delegation, led by Bakar Altureif, Director General of Livestock Risk Assessment at WEQAA, will assess animal welfare and biosecurity measures at sheep collection centers in Calarasi, Constanta, and Tulcea counties. They will also inspect Romania’s National Reference Laboratory and farms previously affected by PPR.
The itinerary includes visits to slaughterhouses, collection units, and the Constanta Border Inspection Point to evaluate export facilities.
ANSVSA president Alexandru Bociu highlighted the potential benefits, stating, “This initiative supports Romanian farmers by reopening access to Saudi markets, enabling them to export high-quality livestock.”
This collaboration aims to strengthen bilateral trade ties and underscores Romania’s commitment to ensuring animal health and fostering international trade opportunities.
