Bulgarian Government Plans Measures on Electricity and Tourism Development

Business

The caretaker government of Bulgaria has announced plans to review contracts with electricity distribution companies, enhance control over them, and assess the national electricity transmission system. Caretaker Minister of Tourism Evtim Miloshev shared this in an interview with Bulgarian National Radio, noting that while the tourism industry is equipped with generators to handle power outages, many households have faced disruptions, CE Report quotes BTA

Despite these challenges, preliminary data showed outstanding results for the Christmas and New Year holidays, with winter resorts, spa hotels, and guesthouses reporting full occupancy.

In late January, Bulgaria will host Montenegro’s Minister of Tourism, Simonida Kordic, to discuss the potential launch of an air route between Sofia and Podgorica. Miloshev expressed optimism, stating, "Air connectivity will make the Balkans a more attractive destination."

Miloshev also emphasized the need for a differentiated VAT rate in tourism, aligning with practices in other European countries. He highlighted that reduced VAT for restaurants and sports facilities could help Bulgaria remain competitive and better support its tourism sector.
