Greek Minister Highlights Low Food Inflation and Announces Market Measures
Greek Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos informed parliament on Tuesday that food inflation in November was 0.6%, one of the lowest rates in the EU, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
Theodorikakos emphasized that monitoring market cartels is the responsibility of the independent Competition Commission, not the ministry's General Secretariat for Trade. He noted that higher fines for violations, enforced over the past six months, have positively influenced market behavior by promoting caution among businesses.
Additionally, he announced two key amendments: the introduction of a "Santa Claus basket" to offer affordable children's toys and the extension of a 3% cap on commercial lease increases for another year, as requested by merchants.
