Bulgaria to Form Alpine Ski Team for Parallel Events
Anatoliy Zamfirov, head coach of Bulgaria’s national snowboard team, announced he is in talks with the Bulgarian Ski Federation about creating a national alpine ski team to compete in parallel events at the World Championships. Although Bulgaria’s alpine skiing tradition is mainly limited to slalom, Zamfirov sees potential for growth, particularly in parallel giant slalom, a team event currently featured only at World Championships, CE Report quotes BTA
Zamfirov, who was named Coach of the Month in March, highlighted the success of his children, Tervel and Malena Zamfirov, in parallel snowboarding. Tervel became world champion in men's parallel slalom, while Malena secured a top finish in the women’s parallel giant slalom. Zamfirov expressed satisfaction with their training and plans to maintain their current approach as they aim for the 2026 Olympics.
The Bulgarian team has made impressive strides under Zamfirov’s leadership, earning numerous medals, and attracting international interest. Despite these successes, Zamfirov emphasized the importance of staying true to their training methods, as teams from Italy and Ukraine sign up for their summer camps. The national team's growth and future remain promising, with eyes on upcoming Olympic competitions.
