Patriarch Daniil Leads Easter Liturgy

Bulgaria

Patriarch Daniil of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church will lead the Resurrection of Christ liturgy at Sofia’s St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral on Holy and Great Saturday night, the Church’s press centre announced, CE Report quotes BTA

Before the midnight service, the Holy Fire will be received at the Synodal Palace and brought to the cathedral. The Patriarch and clergy will then move to an outdoor stage to read the Resurrection Gospel and deliver the Easter message.

Holy and Great Saturday, the final day of Holy Week, marks the time Jesus lay in the tomb and descended into Hell to free the souls held captive. The midnight liturgy features a transition from dark to bright vestments, symbolizing Christ’s triumph over death and sin.
