Transplant Agency Future Still Unclear

Bulgaria

The future of Bulgaria’s transplant agency remains undecided, Health Minister Silvi Kirilov said during a parliamentary Health Committee session on Thursday, CE Report quotes BTA

Kirilov noted that the Ministry has experience with both an independent transplant agency and the current merged structure under the Executive Agency Medical Supervision. “We’ve discussed the matter, but no decision has been made yet,” he stated.

He emphasized that while a separate agency might offer better oversight, any move depends on the ability to boost staffing, as the current workforce is minimal despite high activity levels.

An analysis is underway to assess the best path forward.

The Executive Agency Medical Supervision, which now handles transplant coordination, is the successor to the former standalone agency and operates under the Ministry of Health.
