Key locations that participated in the event included the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, Tsarevets Fortress in Veliko Tarnovo, and the Pantheon of National Revival Heroes in Ruse, among others.
A flash mob was held in Sofia, where young people with epilepsy planted trees in South Park, symbolizing their ongoing care for the trees in the years to come. Additionally, 15 schools in Sofia took part by having students and staff wear purple or ribbons and watch educational films about epilepsy.
Purple Day, first celebrated in 2008 by Cassidy Megan, a young girl with epilepsy from Canada, has since become a global initiative. Epilepsy, affecting around 50 million people worldwide, is a neurological disorder that can be controlled with proper diagnosis and treatment.
