Bulgaria Sees Decline in Migrant Pressure, Says Border Police Chief

Bulgaria

Bulgaria is witnessing a steady decline in migrant pressure, Chief Commissioner of the Border Police Anton Zlatanov told bTV on Monday. He noted a significant shift since he took office, with daily illegal border crossing attempts dropping from over 1,000 to just 10-15, nearing historic lows, CE Report quotes BTA

Zlatanov emphasized that while overall migrant pressure on Europe remains high, Bulgaria has successfully reduced crossings through its territory. Meanwhile, Greece reports an increase in migration pressure.

He also highlighted Bulgaria's strong maritime border security, with 11 patrol ships, seven of which are in constant motion. One vessel is also assisting Greek authorities in the Aegean Sea.

Zlatanov stressed the need for continuous investment in security, both in equipment and human resources, to ensure stability and economic growth.
