Borissov: Those Who Want to Topple the Government Must Take Responsibility

Bulgaria

GERB leader Boyko Borissov stated that anyone seeking to overthrow the Government must take responsibility for their actions. Speaking to journalists in Parliament, he dismissed claims that Democracy for Rights and Freedoms (DRF) leader Ahmed Dogan intends to bring down the Government. "If he wants to, that's his business," Borissov said. Citing a local saying from his hometown Bankya, he added, "You can take by force, but you cannot give by force."

Borissov expressed surprise over DRF’s recent declaration, in which the party distanced itself from MRF-New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski’s alleged behind-the-scenes influence. "Their statement yesterday made me sad because it is not fair. We all share responsibility alongside the other two parties," he said. While acknowledging DRF’s past cooperation, particularly in passing the budget, he noted that no one can be forced to vote a certain way, CE Report quotes BTA

During the budget vote, GERB received support from MRF-New Beginning, led by Peevski. Dogan and Peevski have been at odds since last year over the leadership of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms party.
