Borissov Proposes Centre-Right Coalition with DB, Criticizes Political Landscape
GERB leader Boyko Borissov suggested forming a stable centre-right coalition with Democratic Bulgaria (DB), proposing himself as prime minister and DB’s Atanas Atanasov as National Assembly Chairman. His remarks followed Atanasov’s statement that DB had shut the door on GERB to avoid aligning with Borissov, CE Report quotes BTA
DB, part of the Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) parliamentary group, negotiated separately with GERB-UDF for a government but was ultimately excluded from the final agreement.
Borissov also criticized Bulgaria’s current political landscape, arguing that his party is the only remaining centre-right force, making governance difficult. He claimed DB had been overshadowed by CC, leading to predominantly leftist policies in their previous coalition government.
Responding to questions, Borissov dismissed calls for leadership talks from CC-DB, citing their past opposition to him as prime minister.
He also condemned a recent statement by North Macedonia’s Prime Minister as "an absolute provocation," praising Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry for its response.
