Bulgaria's 2025 Budget to Account for BGN 4 Billion in Overdue Payments
Bulgaria's Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova revealed that overdue payments totaling BGN 4.068 billion will be carried over into 2025. The disclosure came during a parliamentary hearing, where MPs sought clarity on delayed payments amid efforts to maintain a 3% budget deficit—a key requirement for eurozone entry, CE Report quotes BTA
The delayed payments include BGN 1.08 billion in invoiced but unpaid expenses, BGN 1.63 billion in verified but unprocessed payments due to insufficient funds, and BGN 913 million from past payment deferral agreements. Additionally, the Energy System Security Fund’s deficit of BGN 444 million has been carried over.
Petkova emphasized that this financial burden must be accounted for in the 2025 budget.
