Bulgarian Government Submits Stabilization Budget

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced the submission of a budget aimed at stabilizing public finances during a briefing at the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, CE Report quotes BTA

Zhelyazkov emphasized that GERB, led by Boyko Borissov, fully supports the budget, aligning with the party's goals and the government's management program. A key priority is meeting the criteria for Bulgaria’s eurozone accession by January 1, 2026. He also acknowledged the backing of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), calling it crucial for Bulgaria’s European development.

The PM noted that specific budget measures will be disclosed after discussions with coalition partners, including BSP - United Left and There is Such a People (TISP).

Ahead of the cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova revealed that BGN 348 million had entered the Defence Ministry’s budget at the end of January 2025, improving the overall fiscal balance. Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov clarified that the funds came from contracts with Denmark, received in December 2024 and January 2025.
