Bulgarian Socialist Party Moves Towards Coalition Government
The National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) has approved a proposal to mandate the BSP-United Left parliamentary group to sign a governance agreement with GERB-UDF and There Is Such a People (TISP). The decision, aimed at forming a nationally responsible government, passed with a vote of 102-13, with seven abstentions, according to the BSP press office, CE Report quotes BTA
The agreement emphasizes improving quality of life, prioritizing healthcare, education, and labor market development. Key provisions include addressing child poverty, reducing social inequalities, and enhancing support for vulnerable groups. The parties also pledged to protect the welfare state, promote social justice, and advance financial decentralization.
The BSP National Council also nominated several members for key government positions, including Atanas Zafirov as deputy prime minister and other party representatives for ministerial roles in regional development, labor, environment, and youth affairs.
In parallel, the Democracy, Rights and Freedoms (DRF) parliamentary group signaled readiness to support the coalition government during a meeting with the involved parties at the National Assembly.
