Six Bulgarian MPs Face Loss of Immunity Amid Criminal Investigations
Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has requested Parliament to lift the immunity of six MPs, according to a press release on Thursday. The MPs are Radostin Vassilev, Veselin Veshev, Angel Georgiev, Lena Borislavova, Gyunai Daloolu, and Mario Rangelov, representing various political parties, CE Report quotes BTA
The requests, initiated by the Sofia City and Sofia Regional Prosecution Offices, relate to ongoing criminal investigations:
- Radostin Vassilev (MECh): Accused of coercion in a case from 2023.
- Veselin Veshev and Angel Georgiev (Vazrazhdane): Alleged involvement in hooliganism and minor assaults on law enforcement in 2021.
- Lena Borislavova (Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria): Suspected of document fraud.
- Gyunai Daloolu (MRF - New Beginning): Allegedly used threats to secure preferential votes during the 49th National Assembly elections.
- Mario Rangelov (Democracy, Rights and Freedoms): Accused of organizing vote-buying during the 51st National Assembly elections, with payments reportedly reaching 50 BGN per voter.
This follows a separate request to lift the immunity of MP Kiril Petkov (Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria) over another investigation.
Under Bulgaria's Constitution, MPs can only face prosecution with parliamentary approval or their written consent.
