Cocaine Worth $7 Million Found on Ship in Burgas Port
Authorities at Bulgaria’s Burgas port uncovered cocaine worth $7 million aboard a ship, according to the Ministry of Interior. The vessel, carrying 15,000 metric tonnes of cargo, had arrived from Peru with a crew of 11, who have been detained, CE Report quotes BTA
The ship was transporting copper concentrate destined for a metal products manufacturing plant. During inspections, 190 kilograms of a white powdery substance tested positive for cocaine.
Investigators noted a new smuggling technique: instead of traditional hidden compartments, the cocaine was dispersed throughout the ship's pipeline system, particularly in the engine room.
This discovery follows a separate case on November 18, when customs and police at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint intercepted cocaine worth nearly $2.3 million during a truck inspection. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
