Albania's EU path nears historic finish

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said that his country is two years away from completing the historic negotiation process with the European Union, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

Rama spoke about Albania's journey to the EU in the "Eye to Eye" column on his Facebook account.

"The end of 2027, two years, the end of the entire historical process of negotiations with the European Union and of the entire historical process of climbing towards a peak that we never saw, now we see it. It's two years. We wouldn't be here because the European Union, listen here, does not have a friendly policy, agree, when it comes to negotiations. What does it mean to not have a friendly policy? It doesn't forgive you anything, zero. It doesn't forgive you anything if you don't meet all the criteria if your body is not cleansed of all kinds of previous infections from the past, it doesn't accept you," Rama said.

Albania officially opened the first chapter of EU membership negotiations on October 15, 2024.

This important step for Albania came after a long wait.

The country applied for membership in 2009 and received candidate country status in 2014.
