Albanian PM compares EU to Netflix series

The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, in Munich took part in the panel “EU Enlargement” alongside Marta Kos, Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Hristijan Mickoski, Prime Minister of North Macedonia, and Majda Ruge, Senior Policy Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

During his speech, Rama said that what he saw in Munich could be made into a series for the EU and one for the US. "What I know is that when we started this process, I had all black hair and my beard was much thicker. But being a big fan of Netflix, I would say that after what I’ve seen these past two days under this roof, it’s extraordinary, and Netflix could make two series—one for the EU and one for the US. The EU series would be ‘The Patient with 27 Doctors,’ it was 28 by the way, but one went crazy and left the hospital. The US series would be ‘The Show with One Sheriff.’ What is happening I think is something extremely good. At least because I see it from that part of Europe that is not in the EU—we are EU-less. We see things a bit differently, it’s very good that this has happened because Europe needed to be shaken in such a way that it would lose sleep for a while and we’ll see what comes out of this," he said.

Rama mentioned that the Western Balkans looks like the "Park of Europe," a place where many things can happen as many things have happened in Poland, Slovakia, or the Czech Republic, which helped these countries move forward with impressive speed.

Rama said that Europe needs to change a lot, as it involves competitiveness, the entrepreneurship of a new power. He added, “This is an extraordinary opportunity to wake up, to start running, to take what has been lost for so many years, with so many regulations, so many discussions, and so little action.”
